L'Escala Town Council is organising the "III Mitja Marató d'Empúries" for Sunday the 29 April 2012, with the support of the Catalan Athletics Federation. The race will take place in the beautiful rural area around the towns of L’Escala, Sant Martí d’Empúries and Albons.The start and finish lines are at the Empúries Archaeology Museumth is historical and culturally important location has been the meeting point and nexus for all those peoples who have stopped here.
The Bay of Roses has joined the Most Beautiful Bays in the World Club. The club, which currently only includes thirty bays, recognises the value provided by the tourism, landscape, and culture in the region formed by the municipalities of L’Escala and Sant Martí d’Empúries.
The proposed course runs through a flat and picturesque area. The distance of the "III Mitja Marató " will be 21,097 km. a distance validated by the Catalan Athletics Federation. The race is open to all those who accept and respect the distance, the rules and those aged 18 or over on the day of the race. Will begin at 8.30 a.m. and the maximum time limit for completing the race is 3 hours. All those athletes who pace themselves in accord with the race timetable will encounter all the roads used closed to traffic.
NUMBERS AND CHIPS
Participants’ numbers and chips must be collected from the offices of the L’Escala Municipal Sports Centre (Pavelló Municipal de L’Escala) on Saturday the 28th of April or on the same day as the race, Sunday the 29 April 2012, at the starting line. Participants must pick up their numbers at least 1 hour before the start of the race. The application receipt must be presented. The number must be visible and worn on the front of the body during the entire race. Those runners who do not wear a number or who whose number is folded over will not be classified and will not be eligible for any of the awards.
THE COURSE

We have organised a marathon in a romantic setting, one which is steeped in centuries of history in a beautiful area. The start and finish lines are at the Empúries Archaeology Museum, this historical and culturally important location has been the meeting point and nexus for all those peoples who have stopped here. Empúries is an attractive area, it was once the gateway through which Roman and Greek culture entered the Iberian Peninsula. The distance of the "III Mitja Marató d'Empúries" will be 21,097 kilometres; a distance validated by the Catalan Athletics Federation. The maximum time limit for completing the race is 3 hours. All those athletes who pace themselves.
The routeTROPHIES AND REGLEMENT
In the Marathon there will be trophies for the first 5 runners in the General Male Category, the first 5 runners in the General Female Category and the first 3 runners in any of the established categories. Those athletes who win a prize or a trophy in the general classifications will not be awarded a prize for their category. The organisation may request a national identity card or similar document to check an athlete’s the date of birth of other data. Prizes which have not been claimed from the L’Escala Sports Centre within 3 months after the date of the Marathon cannot be collected.
